What
used to be considered a luxury is now deemed a necessity by most of us. There are few, if
any, new homes constructed without central heat and air conditioning. And even if one had
an icebox instead of an electric refrigerator, it is doubtful you could find the ice to
keep it operating. The Air Conditioning/Refrigeration and Heating field has seen rapid
changes in the technology associated with it over the past few years. The demand for the
comforts provided through adequate climate control place even more emphasis on the
dramatic increase in the need for qualified technicians and service personnel, both in the
refrigeration and heating areas.
With the impact of an energy shortage, the equipment already in service will see many
changes and the design of new products will undergo rapid changes to try and develop
systems that are energy conscious and conservation oriented. Alternate sources of power
and heat will have to be investigated, and all of this points to a more challenging future
for anyone wishing to take on this field of work.
