Maintenance Technology
Our Maintenance Technology course provides the student with the technical knowledge and the ability to adapt fundamental experience necessary to perform the repair and/or maintenance of property, as well as knowledge of management concepts.

Maintenance Technology students will be taught in numerous repair skills in electricity, plumbing, and carpentry that will provide to each student a well-rounded background in general repair and maintenance.

The purpose of the course is to provide each student with the opportunity to grasp the fundamentals necessary to perform the basic tasks that are associated with the building maintenance industry. This will be accomplished by both classroom instruction and shop experience.

Property Maintenance - General:
Introduction to maintenance carpentry, piping, and plumbing. Safety in use of hand and power tools. Measuring, layout, and cutting techniques, dry wall repair, repair of door locks, doors and windows, pipe cutting and threading, and use of PVC pipe. Repairing leaky faucets, toilet replacement and repairs, cleaning traps and repairing leaking pipes.

Property Maintenance - Management:
Training in management concepts to include: interviewing techniques, motivating and leading employees, and other skills that include work schedules, preventive maintenance schedules, record keeping, inspections, parts ordering and inventory, and fair housing laws. Training in customer relations and communications to include: writing reports, working with contractors, and dealing with customer complaints.

Property Maintenance – Electrical Repair (PM-111)
Residential electrical; safety, electrical theory, terms & symbols, diagrams, repairing circuits,  replacing switches, receptacles, & circuit breakers, low voltage circuits and inspection.

Property Maintenance – Carpentry Repair (PM-112)
Residential carpentry; safety, tools, materials, measuring, cutting lumber, adhesives & fasteners, structural design, drywall repair, replacing locks & doors and residential inspection

Property Maintenance – Plumbing Repair (PM-113)
Residential plumbing; safety, systems, materials, PVC pipe, copper tubing, soldering, faucet repair, toilet repair, disposal installation, repairing leaks and residential inspection.

* Day Program Recommended Electives include two courses in Industrial Electricity and one course in Computer Operations and Repair.
